Lululemon Skirts vs. Transcendent Active Skirts: A Real Look at Modesty, Length; How They Fit Into Your Life

Lululemon Skirts vs. Transcendent Active Skirts: A Real Look at Modesty, Length; How They Fit Into Your Life

Aja Cohen

When it comes to modest activewear, skirts are honestly the hardest thing to get right. I love a good active skirt — it’s cute, it’s functional, and it gives me that perfect “I can move but still feel covered” balance. Both lululemon and Transcendent Active have active skirts, but they live in totally different worlds when you’re talking about modest length, real coverage, and everyday wearability. Honestly, when I started Transcendent Active, I always gravitated to Lulu, but their skirts were just not modest enough. So that's when I said, "Oh I KNOW I can do this BETTER!"

So let’s dive in.

Lululemon Skirts: Sporty, Short, and Designed for Speed

Lululemon definitely has a vibe with their skirts — they’re athletic, minimalist, and made for runners who want light and fast. But modest? Ehhh. Most of the skirts from Lulu fall between 12–15 inches in length. They’re built like classic tennis skirts or running skirts: cute, flippy, and great if you want air on your legs… not so great if you like to actually bend over without planning your angle.

Even their “longer” styles rarely make it past mid-thigh. And while the fabrics are buttery soft, sweat-wicking, and high quality, the length makes them tricky for anyone who prefers more coverage. You can layer leggings underneath (I’ve done it), but even then, the whole look still has “mini skirt energy.”

In fairness, Lululemon is not trying to make modest wear. Their skirts are fantastic for traditional athletes and runners who want freedom of movement above all else. They nail breathability, performance fabric, and comfort… but modesty is definitely not the design intention.

Transcendent Active Skirts: Built for Modesty, Movement & Everyday Life

This is where Transcendent Active comes in with a completely different point of view. The workout skirts are designed first for modest athletes — women who want to lift, run, hike, mom-life, shop, yoga, travel, everything — without constantly worrying about length.

The skirts hit 23–26 inches depending on the style, which makes them true knee-length or midi-length pieces. That means you can move, squat, stretch, and live your life without adjusting or tugging things into place. I love skirts that let me forget I’m wearing them — that’s the whole point of functional modest wear.

Some things I really appreciate about Transcendent Active skirts:

  • The length is intentional — you can feel it in the way they fall.

  • They’re lightweight but not flimsy, so they don’t fly up in the wind.

  • They layer beautifully with leggings when the weather gets cold.

  • They’re designed for workouts AND real life, not just the gym.

I genuinely think that’s where modest activewear shines compared to mainstream brands: it’s designed by someone who actually lives in it.

Side-by-Side: Length Matters More Than People Think

Let’s talk honestly about skirt length because this is where the real difference shows up.

Skirt Length Comparison

  • Lululemon: 12–15 inches, mostly mid-thigh

  • Transcendent Active: 23–26 inches, knee to midi

The gap is enormous. Length completely changes how you move and how free you feel. With a shorter skirt, you’re constantly thinking about angles and coverage. With a modest skirt, you just move.

When you’re stretching in yoga, climbing outdoors, chasing kids at the park, or even just doing a Target run, that extra 10+ inches makes a world of difference in comfort and confidence.

And honestly? A longer skirt just looks more polished for everyday life. You can go from workout to errands and still feel put together.

Modesty Isn’t Just a Trend — It’s a Lifestyle

Lululemon has dabbled in “modest-friendly” pieces, but skirts aren’t where they shine. They’re a performance brand at heart. Transcendent Active is built from the ground up with modest movement in mind, and that shows in every skirt silhouette.

For women who want modesty without sacrificing performance, Transcendent Active fills that gap completely. And because the skirts are longer, they also work for:

  • Orthodox communities

  • Muslim women

  • LDS women

  • Anyone who just likes a little more coverage

  • People who want sustainable, thoughtful fashion

  • Women who prefer feminine silhouettes over shorts

Lulu skirts are cute for the gym. Transcendent Active skirts are cute for your whole day.

How They Feel in Real Life

I’m honestly such a fan of wearing skirts for everything — workouts, hikes, school runs, brunch. A longer active skirt gives you this easy, breezy confidence because you know you’re covered.

Lululemon’s skirts feel sporty and youthful, but they don’t always feel appropriate outside high-intensity workouts. Transcendent Active skirts transition seamlessly: throw on a hoodie, a quarter sleeve, a denim jacket — you instantly look styled without trying.

And that is really hard to find in mainstream athletic wear.

My Take

If you want speed, ultra-short movement and traditional running silhouettes, Lululemon is great. They’re high quality and comfortable — but modest they are not.

If you want true, comfortable, functional modesty — and workout skirts you can actually move in without planning your day around them — Transcendent Active wins by a mile. The length, the design, the fabric, the lifestyle… it’s built for women like us. And I should know! I am a modest woman on the move!
