From Faith to Fashion: My Journey Creating Modest Activewear with Jewish Pride – As Featured on Aish.com

Aja Cohen

Being interviewed by Aish.com was such a fun and meaningful experience. As someone who is passionate about modest fashion and empowering Jewish women through activewear, having the opportunity to share my story on such a respected platform felt incredibly validating. The article, titled "This Convert Created a Modest Athletic Clothing Line," highlights my journey to Judaism, my career in fashion, and how those paths converged to create Transcendent Active — a brand built on Jewish pride and the belief that modesty can be powerful and stylish.

I converted to Judaism over a decade ago, and the process profoundly shaped who I am today. From the beginning, I was drawn to the values, the traditions, and the beauty of Jewish life. One of the challenges I encountered along the way was finding clothing that felt aligned with my new religious identity while also fitting my active lifestyle. As a lifelong athlete and fashion professional, I knew there had to be a way to merge those two worlds — to create something that spoke to women like me who wanted to live fully, spiritually, and physically, without compromising either part of themselves.

In the Aish article, I share how I launched Transcendent Active in 2020. The goal was to offer modest activewear that is functional, flattering, and designed with Jewish values in mind. I wanted women to feel confident and beautiful while also feeling covered and connected to their beliefs. Every piece in the collection is thoughtfully constructed with that mission at its core.

The interview gave me the chance to reflect on how far I’ve come — not just in building a brand, but in creating a platform for modest fashion that centers Jewish identity and pride. What started as a personal struggle to find appropriate workout wear became a movement to redefine what modest activewear can look like. We’re not just making clothes; we’re making a statement about who we are and what we stand for.

What I loved most about the Aish interview was how warmly and respectfully my story was received. The interviewer asked thoughtful questions about my design background, my conversion, and the motivations behind Transcendent Active. It was clear they understood that modest fashion isn’t just a trend — it’s a form of self-expression deeply rooted in faith, identity, and purpose.

Modest activewear is about more than fabric and functionality. It’s about creating space for Jewish women to move through the world — whether that’s the gym, the grocery store, or the synagogue — with dignity and pride. The article touches on how I use layering and longer hemlines to maintain tzniut (modesty) while ensuring the clothing is breathable and flexible for exercise. That balance is at the heart of what we do.

The response to the article has been incredibly encouraging. I’ve received messages from women around the world who saw themselves in my story — women who’ve also felt the tension between wanting to stay true to their faith and wanting to feel good in their clothes. Seeing that this message resonates beyond just my immediate community reinforces that modest fashion, and Jewish-centered modest activewear in particular, is not a niche — it’s a growing, vital movement.

One of the key things I tried to convey in the article was that modesty is not about hiding — it’s about honoring. Honoring your body, your values, and your identity. Jewish pride shines through in every seam and stitch of our clothing. We don’t have to compromise style for spirituality, or vice versa. Transcendent Active is about integrating those elements so they support and elevate each other.

Another part of the Aish article I loved was how it focused on the joy behind the journey. Yes, starting a brand during a pandemic had its challenges, but it also clarified my mission. I wasn’t just filling a gap in the market; I was answering a call — from my community, from my soul, and from women who felt overlooked by mainstream fashion. This brand is about inclusion, empowerment, and pride.

Jewish pride is one of the core values that drives my work. In a time when antisemitism is rising, I believe it’s more important than ever to celebrate our heritage openly and unapologetically. Fashion can be a tool for that celebration. When you wear something that reflects your values and your identity, it sends a message to the world — and to yourself — that you belong, you matter, and you’re proud.

As I told Aish, creating Transcendent Active was about reclaiming that pride through design. We use modern silhouettes, high-performance fabrics, and inclusive sizing to make sure every woman can find something that fits her needs and her sense of self. Whether you’re a busy mom, a fitness enthusiast, or someone just beginning your modest fashion journey, we’re here to support you.

In sharing my story with Aish.com, I hope to inspire others to embrace their own unique paths — whether that’s through fashion, faith, or fitness. The intersection of those worlds is where the magic happens. And modest activewear is a powerful way to bring them all together.

I’m so grateful to Aish for giving me the platform to share not just my brand, but my heart. This article is more than a synopsis of my work; it’s a celebration of the values that guide it: modest fashion, Jewish identity, and the belief that women can be strong, stylish, and spiritual all at once.

If you haven’t read the article yet, I invite you to check it out. It captures the spirit of Transcendent Active and the journey that brought it to life. And if you’ve ever felt like you had to choose between fashion and faith, I want you to know: you don’t. With modest activewear, you can have both — and you can do it with joy, purpose, and Jewish pride.
