Recycled Polyester
The most widely used fabrication in activewear today is polyester, also known as polyethylene terephthalate (PET).  Our products are made from RECYCLED polyester (rPET), which is obtained by melting down existing plastic and re-spinning it into new poly fiber, the same material that is used in clear PLASTIC WATER BOTTLES.  By recycling it to create fabric, we prevent it from going to the landfill and are able to give it a new life.  Just to give you an example, five soda bottles yield enough fiber for one XL T-shirt!

How your water bottles become our fabric

First, the plastic bottles are sterilized, dried and crushed into small chips.  Then the chips are heated and passed through a spinneret to form strings of yarn.  The yarn is then wound up into spools and the fiber is passed through a crimping machine to create a soft texture.  Finally, the yarn is baled, dyed and knitted into the fabric that you are wearing today!

The process of converting PET into rPET requires much less energy than in the case of normal poly, in fact, it takes 33-53% less energy!  That’s a huge difference!  By using more recycled polyester, we can reduce our dependence on petroleum as the raw material for fabrics. Also, by diverting PET bottles for this process, we reduce landfills which creates less soil contamination, air and water pollution.  Thank you for taking a small step that leads to BIG change!

Deadstock Fabric

About 15% of the fabric used in garment production ends up on the cutting room floor and goes in the garbage.  Transcendent is doing everything and anything that we can to help eliminate fabric waste.  One way we are doing so is by buying DEADSTOCK fabric.  Fabric mills typically have vast amounts of leftover fabric from larger brands, known as deadstock.  Traditionally, mills would hold on to this overproduced fabric for a few seasons and then send them to landfills.  However, there is a new movement in fashion that seeks to give these fabrics a new life.  The mill in LA that we work with carries deadstock fabric from brands like SoulCycle, Fabletics, and Athleta to name a few.  The quality is superb, but it is just sitting in the warehouse waiting for someone to either purchase it or for it to end up in a landfill.  Small brands like ours benefit greatly from buying deadstock fabrics.  Since the fabric is already made, we know what kind of quality we are getting and can buy exactly what we need to help eliminate tons of excess waste.  By purchasing deadstock fabrics, Transcendent can turn these high quality fabrics into new modest activewear.  Deadstock fabric is not as sustainable as using recycled yarns, but it is another way to help reduce waste.  All that cutting floor fabric can be put to exact use.  Buy what you need, not more, not less.  The earth will thank you.

Zero Waste

Fashion is not just about the latest trend, but holds tremendous capacity to spark change that can influence the lives of millions and have a monumental effect on our planet.  That's why Transcendent Active believes in limiting as much waste as possible.  It's really quite simple.  When a garment is cut, there is a large amount of fabric that goes unused.  Normally, these scraps would wind up in the landfill, but we are getting creative on how we can give our fabrics a second life!  Our zero waste initiative is built on looking good, feeling good, and doing good!  Stay tuned for more Zero Waste products!

Ethically Made in the USA

We all know that overseas garment production has changed the landscape of American history.  What once was a career to many Americans has now been outsourced offshore.  That is why we ONLY manufacture in America!  We work closely with our Downtown Los Angeles factories to ensure they are clean, safe, and respectful work environments.  The employees are incredibly talented, paid well, and treated with the utmost respect.

Sustainable Packaging

Our commitment to sustainability goes all the way to the small details in our packaging.  Transcendent Active is thrilled to partner with Colorado based eco-friendly shipping supplier, EcoEnclose.  Our poly mailer bags are made with 100% recycled content, 50% post-consumer waste, and feature a dual adhesive strip for reuse.  In the event you need to make a return, the second adhesive strip makes the process effortless.

The notecards sent along with purchases are constructed entirely from recovered trash, printed with eco-friendly inks, and then fully recyclable (with inks that are friendly to the recycling process).  Everything is naturally biodegradable and compostable.

All of our garments are wrapped in white tissue paper made entirely from post-consumer and post-industrial content and sealed with the world's most sustainable sticker option made exclusively from 100% post-consumer paper.  The best part about our sustainable packaging is that everything is manufactured and printed right here in America!
